Kurt L. Maggio, M.D.

Dr. Maggio started Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa in summer 2012, having recently retired from a career in military medicine spanning three decades. He served as a faculty researcher and physician in the country’s third largest dermatology residency training program for 15 of those years. He loves to teach and learn. Colonel Maggio is a combat veteran who has practiced dermatology all over the world but regards Virginia as his home, where he met his wife 25 years ago. They raised their five children in the Commonwealth. He enjoys running, hiking, swimming and gardening.

Dr. Maggio specializes in the surgical treatment of skin cancer, as he is both fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and board certified in Dermatology. He serves on the faculty of a Mohs Micrographic Surgery fellowship training program in Dayton, OH. He also has advanced training in laser and cosmetic dermatology, especially facial rejuvenation. He looks forward to applying his skills to address your skin problems and concerns with the dignity and respect you deserve.

Dr. Maggio was voted by his peers as one of the best dermatologists in northern Virginia in the 2014 TOP DOC issue of Washingtonian magazine!

Rolla Jaber, M.D.

Dr. Jaber is a board certified dermatologist and has been practicing in the Northern Virginia area since 2008. She did her undergraduate education at the College of William and Mary where she achieved the highest honors of membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and then started medical school at The University of Virginia, earning membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her dermatology training in Michigan, where she served as Chief Resident in her senior year of residency, after which she returned to practice medicine in Virginia.

Dr. Jaber specializes in a broad range of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic services. Her areas of interests include skin cancer screening and treatment, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, and rejuvenation of aging skin. She strives to provide comprehensive and up to date medical care with the utmost respect and compassion towards her patients.

She met and married her husband of 11 years while in medical school. They lead an active and busy life raising and spending time with their three young children. She also enjoys kickboxing, soccer, reading, and traveling.

John W. Brady, M.D.

Dr. Brady is certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has been honored by his colleagues as one of Washingtonian Magazines Top Doctors consistently since its inception. Dr. Brady went to medical school at George Washington University and completed his residency in Dermatology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He has enjoyed providing general medical and surgical dermatology to patients of all ages since 1977.

The Bradys are members of the Manassas Church of Christ. In addition to his love for God, family, and medicine, his other interests include the Washington Redskins, steam trains, and gardening.

Reena Vaid, M.D.

Dr. Vaid is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She is a native Texan and was raised in Houston, Texas. She attended Emory University receiving a Bachelor in Arts in Asian Studies and Sanskrit. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree and completed her pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. Dr. Vaid went on to the University of Texas Health Science Center and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for her dermatology residency, working extensively with skin cancer patients and serving as Chief Resident during her final year. She also completed clinical research in pediatric dermatology and worked in the pediatric urgent care at Northwestern University/Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She has published in several journals and textbooks in dermatology.

In her personal life, she has performed Indian classical dance throughout India and the United States and enjoys spending time with her family playing soccer, hiking, and running.

Inia Tunstall, M.D.

Dr. Yevich-Tunstall is a board certified dermatologist and has been practicing medicine as a medical and surgical dermatologist since 1987. After receiving a PhD in physiology from Columbia University, she then went to medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. From there, she was in the US Army for the next 20 years as both active duty and in the reserves. While in the Army she initially enjoyed being a flight surgeon at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and then completed a Dermatology Residency at Brooke Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

As an Army Dermatologist/Reservist, she moved to Virginia in 1989, and did her duty at Walter Reed Medical Center, Dermatology Clinic. While working there she had the pleasure and privilege of meeting and working with Dr. Kurt Maggio.

During her entire military and private career, she has enjoyed taking care of patients and helping to resolve their dermatology problems.

Her personal goal is to visit as many of our National Parks and forests as possible. She also aspires to learn to sail one day. For now, family scuba diving vacations are fun as well as visiting her children living in Texas and Hawaii.

Jeffrey Lackey, M.D.

Dr. Lackey is a board certified dermatologist who is passionate about the treatment of skin diseases, but focuses primarily on the treatment of skin cancers. He performs Mohs Surgery at Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa. Dr. Lackey completed his micrographic surgery fellowship in Massachusetts, where he honed his skills at removing cutaneous tumors and performing reconstructive surgery that preserves both cosmetic and functional integrity. He has served at multiple military clinics in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia and has provided medical care in more remote settings, including Nicaragua and Iraq. Dr. Maggio also assisted in his training in Dermatology several years ago.

Dr. Lackey and his family currently call Northern Virginia home and he looks forward to serving the patients at Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa.

Kent Handfield, M.D.

Dr. Handfield is a board certified dermatologist who completed his training in dermatology at the National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, Maryland where Dr. Maggio assisted in his training. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from the University of Virginia. After spending 6 years as a submarine officer, Dr. Handfield attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN where he received his medical degree in 2005. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Massachusetts, not far from his home state of Connecticut.

Dr. Handfield lives in Maryland with his wife and three children. He enjoys cooking at home and making a variety of different types of pizza for his family and friends.

Amanda Malgieri, BS, MPAS, PA-C

Amanda is a Certified Physician Assistant, with a specialization in dermatology. As an undergraduate, Amanda studied at Kenyon College and majored in Biochemistry. After graduation, she pursued her career by attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.

Amanda has always had an interest in dermatology, particularly after working at a dermatology office during college as a medical assistant. She enjoys seeing a wide range of patients and treating a variety of skin conditions. Amanda specializes in all aspects of dermatology, from treating acne to diagnosing and treating skin cancers. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, running and watching sports.

Amanda looks forward to being a vital part of the Renewal Dermatology family and is eager to meet and treat all of her patients.

Sofia Kulakowski, PA-C

Sofia graduated summa cum laude from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. She received her master’s degree in Health Sciences from Duke University's Physician Assistant Program, which was the first physician assistant program in the world and continues to be one of the top ranked programs in the U.S.

Sofia relocated to the D.C. area after practicing in Pediatrics for four years in Florida and Texas. She practiced Dermatology in Chevy Chase, Maryland for over two years. Sofia has experience in all aspects of Dermatology including skin cancers, general dermatology, pediatric dermatology, acne, surgical excisions, and cosmetic procedures.

She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, trying new foods, and running. Sofia looks forward to getting to know the patients and become a part of Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa.

Lori Dodd, PA-C

Lori is a dedicated and friendly Physician Assistant who is a Virginia native, growing up in nearby Alexandria. She graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina with a B.S. in Biology, and then returned home to pursue a career in medicine. For over two years she worked as a medical assistant in a Washington D.C. Dermatology practice, where she gained invaluable experience and discovered her true passion for dermatology. She then went on to receive her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

Lori's areas of interest include both general and cosmetic dermatology, treating patients of all ages. She is licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine and Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, as well as the society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cooking, and attending Washington Nationals games with her family and friends. Lori is excited to be a part of the Renewal Dermatology team and looks forward to meeting all of the patients.

Jentry Parafinczuk, BS, MCMSc, PA-C

Jentry graduated from Barry University in Miami, Florida with her Bachelor of Science degree in 2007. She returned to Barry to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant. In 2012, she graduated as a certified Physician Assistant with her Master of Clinical Medical Science degree.

Jentry began her career in dermatology at a very well-known practice in Miami, Florida from 2012-2014. It was here she gained invaluable experience and knowledge in the field to prepare her for a successful career. She then moved to Virginia Beach and practiced with a large dermatology group, expanding her knowledge base and affirming her love of dermatology.

Jentry enjoys every facet of dermatology. From her original love of general dermatology including acne and skin cancer to her developing affinity for cosmetic products and procedures. Her areas of expertise encompass the field in its entirety.

Jentry enjoys her family, friends and food. She frequently enjoys the outdoors with her husband, son and two dogs (with sunscreen of course).

Nichole Thomas, PA-C

Nichole Thomas is a Physician Assistant board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She grew up in Haymarket, Virginia and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Bridewater College. She then completed her graduate work with specialized training in dermatology at Shenandoah University and received a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). She regularly attends conferences hosted by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) to stay well informed on the latest dermatology treatments and procedures.

Nichole practiced general and cosmetic dermatology for the past seven years in Virginia and Maryland prior to joining Renewal Dermatology and MedSpa. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages and is experienced in treating the full spectrum of acute and chronic skin conditions. Her special interests include skin cancer prevention and screening, acne and cosmetic dermatology.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, hiking at Shenandoah National Park, biking the Mount Vernon trail, and traveling abroad. Nichole is excited to be a part of the team and looks forward to serving the patients at Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa.

Lori Darrah, NP

Lori graduated from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and received her Master of Science Degree in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration in 2006 from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of the National Academy of Dermatology Nurse Practitioner's (NADNP).

While Lori has spent a large part of her nurse practitioner career thus far working in pediatric primary care, she became interested in dermatology while living in Florida with her military spouse and two children. After relocating to the D.C. area, she had the opportunity to join the team at Renewal Dermatology and Medspa. She is focused on all aspects of medical dermatology for patients of all ages.

In her free time, Lori enjoys reading, running, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She looks forward to meeting all the patients and pursuing her passion in dermatology.
